geek girl 4: all that glitters review + GIVEAWAY*

My love for this series is never ending. I could read these books over and over and probably never get bored of them. They're the books that lift me up when I feel down, never fail to make me smile. And that's why I'm so sad that this is the last one of the series. You know, in all honesty, I feel as though these books have changed my life. And in some ways, they have. Once you've read them all, I think it makes you realise that there's nothing better than being yourself. You won't get anywhere by pretending to be someone you're not. And that's most prominent in the fourth book, All That Glitters*

The majority of this book was just as good as the others. Harriet Manners is such a character - I don't understand how anyone could be like that in real life, but that makes it all the more funny. She has traits that everyone will see in themselves or someone they know, so you can understand why she might act the way she does, but you think to yourself, 'anyone with even a shred of common sense would know NOT to do that.' In some ways, that makes the book even funnier, but then in other ways, it becomes a bit unrealistic. I found that I couldn't relate to the character because she was doing all of the things that I know to avoid doing,

The whole book was based upon Harriet returning back to school after her adventures from the last three books. In all honesty, you don't really need to have read them all to get the gist, but it helps, especially with bits concerning her boyfriend and bullies. It really is funny though. I can't help myself when Harriet does something embarassing, I cringe on her behalf. And that's what I like in a book, when you can feel the characters emotions. It makes the difference between a well written and an average book.

Yes, I admit, it was cringy, but cringy in a good way. Anyone who knows me knows I love things like that. It's why Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging is my favourite film. And why I liked the 'Wuthering Tights' series.

But the ending to this book kind of disappointed me. It's the last book in the series, and you would expect everything to be solved or at least some explanation for everything that happened. But the end to All That Glitters felt kind of rushed. It was like, the author wanted to finish of the book quickly, and bring it to some kind of conclusion, but couldn't be bothered to write it to completion, I admit, I liked where the ending was going - it had everything I could have hoped for, but just dropped off at the end. As the end of an era, in some ways, I had expected much more.

That being said, the rest of the book lived up to my expectations completely. I love these books a lot, and this one was no exception. So if you're a fan of Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, like me, then I DEFINITELY recommend you pick up a copy of these books, you will not be disappointed, I promise.
